Hydraulics define the evolution of construction machinery. Article updated on April 15, 2016 with new text and images. If you asked my 20-year-old self to describe the typical day on a construction site, I’d probably have described the stereotypical scene: five guys standing around watching a sixth dig a ditch. Even if there was ever any truth to that […]
Hydraulic hybrids
Are hydraulic hybrid vehicles the future of driving?
Today, with almost every major country joining the development race, the demand for fuel is on the rise and the need to look for alternative sources of fuel looms large. One area of research taken up by auto companies has been finding practical and efficient solutions to sources of fuel for vehicles. A couple of […]

Altair’s new series hydraulic hybrid bus unveiled
Normally, the figure of 6.9 mpg wouldn’t get many people’s hearts racing. But this number, achieved by Altair ProductDesign’s new BUSolutions prototype, is fairly stunning. Doing real-world testing of the bus over downtown, commuter and arterial routes, the bus achieved the 6.9 mpg number. Compare that with 3.3 mpg for a same-class diesel bus going through the identical testing, and the number begins to impress.
Rexroth’s DHC combines diesel engine, hydraulics control
Rexroth’s electronic BODAS system solution, Diesel Hydraulic Control (DHC), features high dynamic response of the travel drive and implement hydraulics—even at reduced diesel engine speeds and for TIER 4 final engines.
Autocar launches E3 Advanced Series Hybrid chassis for refuse industry
Autocar has launched the E3 Advanced Series Hybrid cab/chassis. This commercial launch is the culmination of a rigorous testing and validation program, and follows the very successful implementation of a pre-production E3 fleet that is in service in the greater Miami area.
Bosch Rexroth showing Diesel Hydraulic Control at IFPE
Bosch Rexroth is showing its electronic Diesel Hydraulic Control (DHC) system at CONEXPO/IFPE, which the company said provides higher dynamics at lower engine speeds.
