Mishawaka, Ind.—Daman’s Tom Weinkauf will present two papers during educational programs on Thursday, March 24th at the IFPE Conference in Las Vegas. Both papers provide an update on standards work and Daman’s involvement in bringing those standards to the global industry.
Weinkauf will present a paper on Cartridge Valve Cavities as well as a presentation on ISO and NFPA Standards when designing a Directional Valve Stack. “It is my intention to address issues involving both of the topics and discuss the usage of both ISO and NFPA Standards,” Weinkauf said.
As a committee chairperson for NFPA, Weinkauf has participated in several international meetings as the lead U.S. expert on standardization for fluid power technology. Weinkauf acknowledges that the process of establishing global standards and reports takes years, sometimes decades. But he also recognizes the need to advance fluid power technology.
“Hydraulics is a large part of wind energy and gains in power generation,” Weinkauf said. “Pneumatics and hydraulics both could play a part in energy transfer to increase efficiency in hybrid cars in the future.”
Weinkauf expects new standards in these areas to deal with measuring efficiency, reliability and improved sealing of cavities.
Industry leaders consider the IFPE conference the primary resource for information on the latest research for the design engineering community.
The expo is dedicated to the integration of fluid power with other technologies for power transmission with other technologies for power transmission and motion control applications.
