If there’s one thing the fluid power industry needs, it is as many opportunities for users of its technologies and components to have chances to learn about them. And while more universities are offering fluid power courses and a fair number of companies offer on-site training, there is still room for growth. That’s why I was happy to learn at IFPE that Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has launched its own e-learning modules, with a focus on, obviously, sealing technologies.
The modules are free (users must register to access them). The first four introductory courses include:
• A basics look at O-rings, with an introduction and lessons on layout and materials. Three lessons are included.
• A basic and advanced general lesson on hydraulic seals, as well as lessons on rod and piston sealing. Four lessons make up this track.
• Five lessons on installation of different seals make up the third track.
• An introduction on rotary seals, with two lessons on their properties, functions, and fields of application.
In addition to images, video and audio, users can scroll through the text transcript of the lesson as well, to get a quick review on what is covered. Another nice feature is that the videos are broken up into separate slides, so that you can pace yourself. For example, the introduction to O-rings includes 21 parts. The slides are also interactive, with short questions encouraging the user to test their knowledge throughout. It ends with a quick quiz that reviews all that was covered.
These four modules are just the beginning. Trelleborg said it plans to add to them in the future, so stay tuned.
