In conjunction with its exhibition at Utility Expo this week, Sun Hydraulics has officially launched its eSense solution, available now in models XCCX and XCDX. This design has been promoted over the last year, as it was undergoing testing and development.

Designed to advance the future of load-holding technology, the eSense was developed through a collaborative partnership with Maha Fluid Power Research Center of Purdue University and featured in Sun’s ecoline program. Delivering up to 85% energy-efficient power and reducing oscillation by as much as 90%, this resilient, compact, and low-leakage solution is optimized for smoother control and unmatched reliability. For application builders and operators alike, this translates into lower energy utilization, more uptime, and a hydraulic system that works smarter, not harder.

Christian Ortega, Product/Brand Marketing Manager for Sun, said that the eSense valves are available as is or for customization. “These are ready to be used. You can buy this part number here, or it can be customized.  This same product can just be set up differently to your specific application,” he said.

Ortega added that Sun’s partnership with Purdue proved how different boom extensions reacted with the eSense platform, which in turn impacts boom oscillation. For example, the main boom extension had 85% energy savings with 15% less oscillation. With main boom retraction and outer boom folded, energy savings was 78% and featured 1% more oscillation. Finally, with main boom retraction and outer boom unfolded, there was 84% savings and 89% less oscillation.

What makes eSense stand out is its ability to deliver smooth, efficient performance under varying load conditions. The low-leakage design reduces drift and enhances stability, giving operators the confidence that loads will remain secure under any condition. Compact cartridge architecture enables easy integration into existing system layouts, while its scalable technology provides flexibility and adaptability for evolving system requirements.

The technology behind eSense is supported by the IP69K-rated uControl Mobile Controller from Enovation Controls. eSense delivers superior shock absorption and smoother control in demanding applications such as hydraulic presses, gantry cranes, planters, scissor lifts, and material handling machines.
