OPS Controls creates tool for simplified CAN system development

OPS Controls, a manufacturer in control systems for on- and off-road equipment, announces the launch of the S.C.O.P.E. Starter Kit, a plug-and-play solution designed for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to configure their own CAN control systems.

The S.C.O.P.E. Kit officially launched at the National Fluid Power Association Annual Conference in Tucson, Arizona last month.

With the S.C.O.P.E. kit, users will now have a simple configuration for setting up their own CAN systems and Radio remotes so anyone—not just engineers or programmers—can create a new control system.

“As many OEMs continue to see margins shrink while competition increases from big players in the industry, it has become abundantly clear that you need to add value where you can — and as inexpensively as possible,” said Dustin Brooks, president of OPS Controls. “This tool will add that value by putting the power of an entire engineering team right in your hands.”

Demands of OEMs are getting more technical and as hydraulics have advanced, many component manufacturers have struggled to keep up. Not to mention the challenges associated with finding and retaining the personnel needed to help with these advances, further compounding the situation.

This is not just a product; it's a full-service solution. In a nutshell, it’s CAN for those who can’t.

“We developed a system for hydraulic distributors and OEMs who want to get into the electrical side of designing CAN systems and radio remote controls, but don’t necessarily have the engineering or programming staff to devote to this work,” said Brooks. “This tool provides all the programming in the background and boils it down to walking through screens and making selections.”

The kit includes two complete radio systems, an easy to navigate screen, harnessing and customizable keypads. Overall, this is a fully customizable solution so it can fit a range of projects. Users can also connect a telematics unit, further simplifying efforts and remote work.

Eight hours of customization and training — either online or at OPS Controls headquarters — with the OPS Controls team is complimentary to ensure ease of setup.

Customers already using the kit have made great strides in streamlining their manufacturing processes.

One customer, a manufacturer of agricultural equipment, couldn’t customize fast enough to keep up with customer changes to their extensive lineup of products. With the S.C.O.P.E. Kit, this team now has the flexibility to make changes without disrupting the entire production line. Now the door is open on new customers and business segments that would have been unreachable before.

“You don’t need to stock unique hardware. Just one set of this included hardware will cover most of your use cases,” added Brandon Flick, vice president of sales. “This is not just a product; it’s a full-service solution. In a nutshell, it’s CAN for those who can’t.”
