I’m used to writing about fluid power of the motion control variety. But this week, I’m reminded of the unassailable power of even unpressurized water—especially when it decides to come into my finished basement and ruin almost everything. Ah, Hurricane Sandy, you’ve been a maddening thing, even here in Ohio, hundreds of miles from the Atlantic Ocean. All in all, though, I’m fortunate to say that my friends and family have been lucky to not suffer any loss of life here—stuff can be replaced, but people can’t. My heart goes out to everyone touched by the storm, especially those who lost a loved one.
Though in the spirit of Sandy, I’ll go over a few of the East Coast-based fluid power manufacturers that have been affected and their current situations:
Festo Corp. has experienced disruptions at some of their U.S. facilities. The company has had limited operations since Wednesday, October 31, but says that as of today, Friday, they are fully operational at all locations.
The World Wide Metric corporate office in Branchburg, N.J. continues to remain on generated power. Every effort is being made to restore power as quickly as possible. UPS, Fed Ex, and several carriers are now working in New Jersey, so the company is now shipping from its New Jersey branch again. Currently, all inquiries are being routed to the company’s fully functional locations in Texas, California, and Florida—which can be reached at 732-247-2300 or 855-225-5997. The company also notes that their email is currently down, but a temporary email being used is firstname.lastname@example.org.
