The latest data published by the National Fluid Power Association (NFPA) shows industry shipments of fluid power products for May 2014 increased 2.1% compared to May 2013, and decreased 2.0% compared to last month. Industrial hydraulic and pneumatic shipments increased and mobile hydraulic shipments decreased in May 2014 when compared to May 2013. Each point on this graph represents the most recent 12 months of orders compared to the previous 12 months of orders. Each point can be read as a percentage. For example, 99.3 (the April 2014 level of the industrial hydraulic series) indicates that industrial hydraulic orders received from May 2013 to April 2014 were 99.3% of the orders received from May 2012 to April 2013.
This graph of 12-month moving averages shows that in May 2014, hydraulic shipments increased and pneumatic shipments remained the same. The table below is expressed in terms of cumulative percent changes. These changes refer to the percent difference between the relevant cumulative total for 2014 and the total for the same months in 2013. For example, the April pneumatic shipments figure of 5.5 means that for the calendar year through April 2014, pneumatic shipments increased 5.5% compared to the same time period in 2013.
