New Bluetooth embedded amplifier enables wireless configuration of proportional cartridges

Bluetooth Assembly-CMYKSun Hydraulics Corporation today announced a new way to configure embedded amplifiers without using a PC or connecting with wires. This new version of Sun’s successful Embedded Amplifier series can be configured via an iOS or Android app using Bluetooth for wireless calibration.

“This Bluetooth Embedded Amplifier represents a major advance in the fluid power industry,” said Allen Carlson, President and Chief Executive Officer at Sun Hydraulics. “By providing wireless configuration from a smart device while maintaining noise-emission compliance, it’s going to find its way into a broad range of applications, both mobile and industrial, where cost, reliability and ease of use are critical.”

This fluid power cartridge industry development means that technicians can now be in close proximity to observe machine operation but remain untethered and completely safe when setting up and calibrating the machine behavior. Configuring without wires means the end of special cables, connectors and the need for an expensive PC in the field, relying instead on the phone already in your pocket.

Set-up is via a Sun Hydraulics app, AmpSet Blue, designed for the iOS and Android operating systems and available free of charge for Apple through the App Store and for Android on our site.

Bluetooth-CoilValve-front-CMYKThe app allows users to connect to the embedded amplifiers with their smart device, pairing with the amplifiers to adjust all normally expected parameters of the proportional controller through several clear, easy-to-follow, intuitive screens. Settings can be saved, loaded and shared from the app.

Password protection prevents unauthorized access to the amplifiers. And for added safety, a “connection time-out” feature is activated by a period of non-use, preventing the user from leaving the application open and paired.

The controller is CE and RoHS compliant, sealed to IP69K, fully encapsulated for harsh environmental usage and has enhanced diagnostic LEDs giving real-time operational status. For further information, please visit the Sun Hydraulics website:
