Maintaining good fluid quality is a key requirement for keeping systems in working order and reducing down time. The challenge facing all oil and hydraulic filtration technologies is the ability to remove the smallest particles. These are the contaminants that cause the greatest wear and contribute significantly to the failure of parts and systems. FilterMags, magnetic filtration technology, works non-invasively with conventional oil, hydraulic and fuel filters, while capturing sub- 10-micron contaminants.
Unlike paper, bypass and centrifugal filtration technologies, magnetic filtration use powerful magnets to dramatically improve the capture rate of wear-causing contaminants in oil and hydraulic fluids. The filters are designed to focus a magnetic field from neodymium alloy magnets, the same used in MRI machines, into the filter to remove damaging particles from oil operating at up to 300°F. FilterMag installs in seconds by magnetically attaching to oil, hydraulic and/or fuel filters of varying diameters and sizes.
Its patented FluxCon shielding is encased in a proprietary plastic frame. The FluxCon shield focuses the magnetic field into the filter thereby protecting the engine compartment from magnetic flux and redirecting it back into the filter.
Test results on a 980G loader used in heavy construction revealed that a FilterMag CT4.9 installed on an existing oil filter (without an oil change prior to testing and an ISO 4406 particle count of 25/20) reduced use oil ISO 4406 particle count to 22/19 after just 20 hours. The wear-causing particle count was reduced by 87%, which equates to at least a 200% increase in remaining engine life.
