This year sees three new product lines as the big focus for Logan Clutch, as it showcases its PTO lines at CONEXPO/CON-AGG this week in booth S-81746 and for Work Truck Show next week. The 390 Series SoftStart PTO clutch, the 530 Series SoftStart PTO clutches engineered for Allison 3000 and 4000 Series transmissions combine high torque capacity with controlled engagement to improve durability for both the clutch and the driveline.
The Logan 390 Series Hi-Capacity SoftStart Counter Shaft PTO Clutch for Eaton Cummins Endurant XD transmissions extends Logan’s proven line of heavy-duty, self-contained, direct-drive PTO clutches. The 390 Series delivers smooth engagement, quick release, and high torque capacity for demanding mobile and industrial applications, backed by over 50 years of PTO design and manufacturing experience.

Logan PTO clutches deliver over 390 lb-ft / 529 Nm of continuous-duty torque — providing a 30-50% factor of safety versus its leading competitors. This added torque, combined with a generous safety factor, and compact envelope, ensures dependable power delivery.
SoftStart Technology provides smooth engagement and quick release to reduce torque shock. SoftStart manifold further limits torque spikes and shock loads, extending driveline and equipment life in high-inertia applications such as pumps, blowers, and generators. System design supports stable torque transmission across popular PTO ratios, delivering consistent horsepower output for continuous-duty operation.
It features a heavy-duty disc pack for smooth engagement and quick release. Sintered-bronze friction material delivers a low static-to-dynamic torque ratio for smooth, long-lasting, high-energy performance. Belleville springs ensure uniform engagement and quick release. Thick, high-carbon steel separator discs provide exceptional durability and heat resistance for extended service life. High-alloy shafts support greater strength and durability. Patent-pending keyless, spline-less design options provide a backlash-free, vibration resistant connection.
It is built for heavy industrial use and extended maintenance intervals. A strong, lightweight, corrosion-resistant aluminum housing simplifies installation and reduces auxiliary-driveline weight. It is compatible with hydraulic or pneumatic pressure sources.
“The Logan 390 Series PTO Clutch delivers more torque, less weight, and greater reliability than competing solutions. It’s the stronger, lighter, and more durable choice for Eaton Endurant Transmissions,” said Andrew Logan President, CEO. “Typical Endurant XD rear PTOs are gear-driven gearboxes that engage mechanically (shift and/or pneumatic actuation). They transfer torque well, but they don’t modulate PTO engagement. The Logan PTO Clutch uses a multi-disc wet clutch with SoftStart manifold control to manage engagement rate — reducing clutch shock while delivering positive, repeatable torque transfer. Hydraulic or pneumatic pressure drives a piston that clamps the friction and separator discs. When pressure is removed, release springs separate the discs to maintain running clearances.
The Logan disc pack has superior clamping force and transfers a level load across multiple friction interfaces for stable live-PTO torque transfer. Applied hydraulic or pneumatic pressure controls transmitted torque, while Self-Adjusting piston travel compensates for disc wear,” Logan said. “Controlled SoftStart engagement and quick release help reduce driveline shock loading, supporting longer life for shafts, couplings, and other driven components.”
Logan Countershaft Mounted PTO Clutches are also compatible with PACCAR TX-12 and TX-18 Transmissions.
Logan PTO Clutches for Allison 3000 and 4000 Series Transmissions deliver higher continuous-duty capacity and longer service life for vocational truck applications. It is built around a heavy-duty disc pack engineered specifically for continuous-duty operation, not intermittent or lightly loaded cycles. “Fleet engineers running blowers, vacuum trucks, and refuse equipment are selecting the Logan 530 Series SoftStart PTO clutch for disc pack durability and controlled engagement,” Logan said. “In today’s Class 6–8 vocational truck market, fleet owners and engineers are placing renewed emphasis on PTO clutch durability under continuous-duty operation. Extended run times and sustained loading require PTO-driven auxiliary equipment to withstand routine — and sometimes harsh — operating conditions.”

For Allison 3000 and Allison 4000 transmission platforms, PTO reliability increasingly comes down to two core design elements: disc pack strength and how engagement energy is managed.
Published specifications show that the Logan 530 Series delivers up to 530 lb-ft of continuous-duty torque and up to 100 horsepower at 1,000 rpm, exceeding the continuous-duty capacity of many commonly specified PTOs in this category by more than 35%.
That additional capacity translates into added cushion during peak operating conditions. In continuous-duty vocational service, it directly influences disc pack stress, thermal loading, and long-term wear rate.
When a PTO clutch operates near its published limit, the disc pack has little reserve to absorb engagement energy or load variation. Over time, that lack of margin shows up as glazing, heat damage, reduced torque consistency, and shortened service life.
Higher continuous-duty capacity allows the disc pack to operate at a lower stress ratio during normal service, which is particularly important for fleets running extended PTO cycles under load.
