AKG of America, a manufacturer of cooling solutions including heat exchangers used in mobile machinery, is in the process of completing construction on a new 32,000 ft2 Research and Development (R&D) center located on its Mebane, N.C. campus. The new R&D center will allow AKG to expand new product introduction (NPI) within the worldwide group of AKG companies.
The facility includes a new high-capacity water-glycol thermal cycle test stand that will allow for testing of up to six heat exchangers at one time with a combined flow of 250 gpm. A charge air cooler thermal cycle test stand capable of testing heat exchangers with combined internal airflow of 12,000 KG per hour at 250°C differential will follow. Current R&D test equipment including pressure cycle test stands, thermal imaging camera, burst testing, and analytical equipment will be relocated to the new facility. The new Mebane R&D center will complement the German R&D center located in Hofgeismar, Germany by providing capabilities specific to the US market.
“OEM manufacturers in mining, power-generation, construction, and other markets will continue to benefit from AKG’s combined approach to lab testing based on actual field profiles,” said Steve Sydnor, US R&D Manager. “The enhanced capability and size of the new test stands have the potential to be used for third party testing outside of AKG’s markets.”
The new R&D center is on schedule to be operational in early 2018.
