It wouldn’t be best to go with a cavitation-prone pump, so some particular piston pumps might not be a good choice. But to be honest, each pump design has its benefits and weaknesses. There are some gear pumps that are prone to cavitation related to high inlet suction.
Vane pumps, in general, are the most resistant and have the best characteristics related to poor inlet conditions.
