How many times have you been stuck at a party of some sort where the inevitable question comes up, “What do you do?” And no matter what you say, the response you’ll get is likely a variation of:
“Hydraulics … what’s that?!”
Do you go into a long diatribe about Blaise Pascal and pressure and horsepower and power density? Or do you simply explain that it’s what power all that construction equipment they see at the side of the road?
Well, now you’ll have a great video to reference. Stephen Colbert has been doing some funny stuff since taking over the reins at The Late Show, and he recently introduced us to milk-powered hydraulics. Colbert featured British inventor Dominic Wilcox on the show. Wilcox is an … er, let’s just say eccentric guy, who’s known for designs such as a Soggy-O-Meter, audio binoculars, and a teacup with a built-in cooling fan. On The Late Show, he let Colbert wear his “cereal serving head crane device,” which allows the user to harness the power of milk to scoop up rice crispies and deposit them in a cereal bowl.
It’s a cute bit, and well worth watching. Check out the video below, and then forward it to your friends so they’ll better understand what it is you do!
