The latest data published by the National Fluid Power Association shows industry shipments of fluid power products for August 2014 increased 4.0% compared to August 2013, and decreased 4.7% when compared to last month. Industrial hydraulic and pneumatic shipments increased, while mobile hydraulic shipments decreased in August 2014 when compared to August 2013. Pneumatic shipments increased, while mobile hydraulic and industrial hydraulic shipments decreased when compared to last month. These charts are drawn from data collected from more than 80 manufacturers of fluid power products by NFPA’s Confidential Shipment Statistics (CSS) program.
Each point on this graph represents the most recent 12 months of orders compared to the previous 12 months of orders. Each point can be read as a percentage. For example, 103.2 (the July 2014 level of the industrial hydraulic series) indicates that industrial hydraulic orders received from August 2013 to July 2014 were 103.2% of the orders received from August 2012 to July 2013.
This graph of 12‐month moving averages shows that in August 2014, both hydraulic shipments and pneumatic shipments increased. The table below is expressed in terms of cumulative percent changes. These changes refer to the percent difference between the relevant cumulative total for 2014 and the total for the same months in 2013. For example, the July pneumatic shipments figure of 5.8 means that for the calendar year through July 2014, pneumatic shipments increased 5.8% compared to the same time period in 2013.
